Digital images and metadata
Digital images often contain hidden metadata, which is text-based information embedded within the file. This metadata can include sensitive details such as the photographer's personal information, unique image identifiers, and even whether the image was AI-generated.
Such information can pose risks when sharing or uploading images online, including personal data exposure, image tracking, and unauthorized use.
However, simply removing metadata is not enough to ensure an image's uniqueness. ImageWasher goes further by transforming the image itself at the pixel level, creating a visually similar but completely unique image in terms of data.
Why use ImageWasher?
1. 1. Remove Metadata
Protect Personal Information
Safely remove sensitive data such as GPS location, shooting place, and capture time.
Prevent Image Tracking
Remove unique image identifiers and hidden metadata to block potential tracking.
2. 2. Image Data Regeneration (Optional)
Ensure Image Uniqueness
Generate completely new images by transforming the image itself, not merely by removing metadata but going beyond it.
Details:
Random Brightness and Saturation Adjustments
Completely alter pixel data to create a unique image.
Random Pattern Overlays
Mix up the entire data pattern by applying semi-transparent random pattern across the image.
Image Border Application
Add a separate object as a border to further enhance image uniqueness.
Image Resizing
Randomly adjust image dimensions within a specified range to further modify pixel data.
What is a Random Pattern Overlay?

A random pattern overlay is created by generating a pattern of random values at the pixel level and overlaying it onto an image at a very low opacity (almost invisible to the eye). This process completely changes the underlying data of the image, making it entirely different from the original, even though it looks visually the same.
Patterns are generated through techniques that use mathematical algorithms. Simple brightness or saturation adjustments can be mathematically reversed to recover the original image. However, once an irregular pattern overlay is applied, it becomes impossible to recover or estimate the original image. Additionally, it can remove any existing tracking markers that may still remain.
In short, a random pattern overlay preserves the visual appearance of the image while completely altering its data, ensuring that the original image cannot be recovered or estimated.
Applications
ImageWasher provides two services: a read-only metadata viewer and a full metadata cleaning & image regeneration tool.
